Project overview
I worked on the Moda Yoga Halifax Instagram templates as the lead designer, with the project completing November 27, 2021.
Context and objectives
The client (Modo Yoga Halifax) reached out for having a more cohesive and clean look to their social media. Their current designs changed too often depending on the artist they hired, so the new templates needed to address this issue as well as cohering to the Modo Yoga brand (of which is all over
North America).

My methodology started with researching Modo Yoga, its other locations, and in particular, its headquarters. What I saw of Modo Yoga’s San Francisco account and headquarters was a much more minimalist, image-based style of layout than all the current copy on creative with Halifax’s templates. I took a look at other Modo Yoga locations to see if there were other elements of that style in their social media. Seems like most locations had some of the same issues as Halifax, whereby they’d use some of San Francisco’s creative, and outlier creative of their own. I took a look as well at other related yoga companies in Halifax. Modo Yoga really stood out with its warm colours, and minimalist, easy-to-read logo. It was time to fit the theme, and the chill vibes.

The design process was quite straight-forward with this campaign. After researching these design elements, I sketched some templates that matched the minimalist, flowing energy expressed in yoga practice. I began with lots of simple curves and easy-going cut-outs. This was mainly to be mindful of the users I’d be handing the designs off to in case they themselves were not experts in Adobe software. I then chose Aktiv Grotesk, as not only is active in the name, it carefully matched the minimalist and effortless quality in the San Francisco designs. Finishing off the designs with a naturalist colour palette, I handed off a description of my research and choices to the client along with my process. The client loved it, and did not require any further edits from me.

The client left a rather open brief: design social media templates for Moda Yoga Halifax’s instagram account. But refining the brief by going over close perimeters with what kind of look and feel we were looking to achieve, along with understanding the overarching brand that is Modo Yoga, I believe we landed in a much more successful design by the end of our process together.
